Vladimir Katriuk points at his honeybee farm in Ormstown, Que., Wednesday. Katriuk, alleged to be one of the world's most-wanted Nazi war criminals, is living a quiet life keeping bees and selling honey in rural Quebec. (THE CANADIAN PRESS)

Ormstown, Quebec – Propped up by a shovel that acts as his cane, Vladimir Katriuk putters about his wooded lot in rural Quebec, lovingly caring for his bees and appearing to have few worries other than this season’s honey yield.

But a prominent Jewish human-rights organization insists there’s much more to the cordial 91-year-old beekeeper — whom they allege is of the world’s most-wanted Nazi war criminals.

Advertisement:

The Simon Wiesenthal Center recently ranked Katriuk No. 4 on its top-10 list of suspected former Nazis, after a new study alleged he was a key participant in a village massacre during the Second World War.

An academic article alleged that, in 1943, a man with his name lay in wait outside a barn that had been set ablaze, operating a stationary machine gun and firing on civilians as they tried to escape. The same article said the man took a watch Windows XP Key, bracelet and gun from the body of a woman found nearby.

Katriuk spoke with The Canadian Press this week at his small farm in Ormstown, just under an hour’s drive from Montreal.

He has denied any involvement in war crimes in the past. This week he repeatedly refused to discuss anything about himself — other than his passion: the honey bees.

“I have nothing to say Windows 7 product key free,” Katriuk said of the accusations, after putting down a beekeeper’s smoker and replacing a mesh veil for a floppy ball cap.

“When we talk about bees, that’s different. When we talk about my own affairs, that’s something else. I’m sorry.”

Asked how he felt about having his name on the list of worst surviving Nazis, Katriuk paused. He reached into a box and pulled out a piece of a beehive: “You see?” he said. “Here they have started to make the royal cell (for a queen bee).”

The otherwise chatty Ukrainian-Canadian, who moved to Canada in 1951, claimed he wasn’t aware his name was added to the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s list.

When pressed again about the allegations, he replied: “Let people talk.”

Katriuk has faced accusations that he was a Nazi collaborator before, but this week Katriuk seemed fixated only on his bees, and their well-being.

He even rushed to one bee’s defence.

“Don’t move, don’t move Office 2007 Key, don’t move,” Katriuk shouted at a news photographer who tried to swat a bee that had landed on his lapel.

“Stay still and that’s it.”

ABC News’ Michael Falcone, Emily Friedman and Matthew Jaffe report:

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio officially threw his support behind Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney Wednesday night in an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” show.

“It’s evidently and increasingly clear that Mitt Romney’s going to be the Republican nominee What Is The Best Tattoo Ink,” Rubio told Sean Hannity. “I am going to endorse Mitt Romney.”

“He offers such a stark contrast to the president’s record,” he added.

Rubio said that the primary needed to come to a close and that Republicans must avoid a “floor fight” in Tampa this summer: “I don’t think there’s anything good about that.”

“I think it’s a recipe for disaster.”

“I think all the candidates in this race have a lot to be proud of,” speaking of the other Republicans running for the party’s nomination, but he called Obama a “disastrous president” and suggested the GOP should begin to focus on the general election.

Perhaps more than any other Republican, Rubio’s name is tossed around as a potential vice presidential  candidate. Rubio shot down that speculation on “Hannity” saying, ”I don’t believe I’m going to be asked to be the vice presidential nominee. ”

He said as much in an interview earlier on Wednesday.

“It’s not going to happen Piercing Machine,” Rubio told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “But I’m obviously flattered by, that people think about me that way. There are some things I’d like to get done here in the United States Senate. I’m enjoying the role that we have here.”

Mitchell noted that he would “have a lot more power as vice president Cheap Tattoo Machine, potentially.”

“Oh, you think so?” Rubio replied, grinning widely. “I don’t know. I mean that’s debatable. Well, I’m enjoying my time here in the Senate. It’s a privilege to serve here, and that’s really what I’m focused on. I’m not going to be the vice presidential nominee, but I’m always flattered when people bring it up. I think they mean it as a compliment.”

Tuesday, in an appearance on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” Romney was asked to describe Rubio in one word. Using three, Romney responded “The American Dream.”

And in Metairie, Louisiana, on Friday, Romney referred to Rubio when making his argument against “Obamacare,” saying that the Florida senator made a good point about the costliness of the plan:

“There’s another one that Marco Rubio mentioned—the Senator from Florida—he said even if Obama care were a perfect piece of legislation—and it’s not—we can’t afford a trillion dollars of new spending,” Romney said. “And we just heard from the CBO, it’s not a trillion dollars, it’s double that. And so, the critics were right, and the advocates were wrong. Obama care is massively more expensive than originally estimated and we cannot afford more government spending.”

Rubio is taking other steps to shed his previously low-profile. The South Carolina GOP announced earlier this month that the Florida senator will be keynoting the party’s annual Silver Elephant dinner on May 19.

And the publisher of Rubio’s forthcoming memoir, “An American Son,” announced that it was pushing up the release date from October to June 19.

According to a late January poll conducted by Latino Decisions for ABC News and Univision, 60 percent of Latino Republicans in Florida would be much more likely to vote Republican in November if Rubio is added to the GOP ticket. Nationwide, 13 percent of Latinos said they would be much more likely to vote Republican if that happened, with 12 percent saying they would be somewhat more likely to back the GOP if Rubio joined forces with Romney.

That same poll found that 67 percent of Latinos would back Obama in a matchup against Romney, who only earned 25 percent of their support. 41 percent of Latinos nationwide said they had a somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable view of Romney. And a whopping 72 percent of Latinos said the Republican candidates in the primary either didn’t care too much about Latinos or were being outright hostile towards Latinos.

Rubio would obviously help Romney’s cause in that regard.

The Florida senator has criticized his party’s approach to Latinos. In February, Rubio told Time Magazine, “What’s the Republican legal-immigration plan? And that’s a problem, when all they [Latinos] hear from you is what you’re against and not what you’re for… Ultimately there is, in my opinion, hundreds of thousands of conservatives and potential conservatives all across this country that will never become conservatives because they somehow feel that the party where the conservative movement is housed doesn’t want them.”

While Romney consistently says it would be “presumptuous” to give names of people he’d consider for the vice president before he’s the GOP nominee, often waving off the question by saying that the republicans have a “deep bench” that could fill the slot, that Rubio is on Romney’s mind is undeniable.

Romney has not shied away from speaking highly of Rubio on the campaign trail, even coming to his defense last October when several publications challenged the year that Rubio’s parents fled Cuba, arguing that the Florida senator may have embellished his family’s history.

At a press conference at his Manchester, N.H., campaign headquarters, Romney was asked about the controversy, to which he leapt to Rubio’s defense.

“I have the highest respect for Marco Rubio I think his family’s history having come to this country speaks for itself. This is a family who came with nothing and Marco Rubio and his family deserve the highest praise and recognition. I think the world of Marco Rubio and support him entirely and think the effort to try to smear him was unfortunate and bogus,” said Romney.

On Wednesday night, Rubio returned the favor: ”We have an obligation to work on behalf of the nominee, Mitt Romney,” he said.

“I have zero doubt in my mind of two things,” Rubio said. “Number one, that Mitt Romney will govern as a conservative. Number two, he will be head and shoulders better than the guy who is in the White House right now.”

Jon Huntsman continues to play Republican gadfly and in a speech Thursday at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, he sounded more like an independent candidate for president (which he is not) than somebody who has endorsed Mitt Romney (which he has).

“The party is not in a good place right now,” Huntsman said, according to a write-up in the Harvard Crimson.

Huntsman cited immigration in particular and a lack of leadership in general.  “Boldness is thrown out the window,” he said.  “Courage is not on display.”

“Here you are during a time of the great crisis for this nation,” Huntsman said. “and you say, this is all this great country can offer up?”

He didn’t mention Mitt Romney’s name Buy Tattoo Kits, but was eventually asked about him and was less than enthusiastic.

“I think Romney will show leadership on the economy Tattoo Machine For Sale,” Huntsman said. “But on the trust deficit, I don’t see a whole lot of leadership.”

WASHINGTON — The White House said Monday that the huge trading loss by JPMorgan Chase & Co. highlighted the need for tough regulations, blasting Wall Street efforts to weaken new rules in the 2010 financial reform law.

“Ever since it was passed there have been millions and millions of dollars spent by Wall Street lobbyists trying to water down, delay and render ineffective the rules that have been put into place,” said White House spokesman Jay Carney. “The president has fought that. This merely reinforces why the president was right to take on this fight.”

Carney’s comments were the first on-the-record statements by the Obama administration after JPMorgan reported a $2 billion trading loss last week.

The Dodd-Frank financial reform law is one of President Obama’s major accomplishments. On Monday, the White House joined other supporters of the legislation in using JPMorgan’s embarrassing disclosure to urge regulators not to give in to efforts by Wall Street and many Republicans to weaken or repeal the law.

“It is amazing that there are still those who are out there arguing we should repeal Wall Street reform, that we should let Wall Street write their own rules again Hale Bob Dresses sale,” Carney said.

Carney, speaking with reporters on Air Force One Herve Leger v neck sale, would not comment on investigations by regulators into the JPMorgan trading. Obama traveled to New York City on Monday for a college commencement address, TV interview and fundraising.

Carney strongly defended the need for tougher financial regulations to avoid future taxpayer bailouts.

“We can’t prevent bad decisions from being made on Wall Street,” Carney said. “What’s important to note here is that those suffering the losses because of what happened here are shareholders and not average Americans who had nothing to do with this.”

Tattoo Supplies

When the Chrysler Nassau concept was unveiled at the 2007 North American International Auto Show, more than a few pundits panned the premium hatch as less than desirable. For one Tattoo Supplies, there aren’t a lot of hatchbacks that sell for over $20,000 in the US market, and the Nassau doesn’t look cheap. It’s also tough for any vehicle to follow up on the success of something as popular as the current 300C, and the Nassau concept had been labeled as a possible next-generation iteration of the RWD mobster/hip-hop sedan.

While there is little doubt in our minds that the Nassau would be in a heap of trouble trying to replace the 300C, we wouldn’t be surprised if such a vehicle could serve as a softer, gentler, complimentary vehicle in a future Chrysler lineup. Our opportunity to drive the Nassau was brief, but it gave us a chance to appreciate the concept from behind the wheel, and our overall opinion is fairly positive. So Nice, They Named It Twice: If you think you’ve had a long week Replica Calvin Klein Watches, be glad you’re not Rudy Giuliani. On Tuesday, his top Iowa adviser left to become Bush’s OMB director. He had to dump his South Carolina campaign chair, who was charged with cocaine possession and distribution. But for Giuliani, those headaches paled alongside the week’s most excruciating spectacle: seeing his successor, Michael Bloomberg Where buy best Replica Zenith Watches, grace the cover of Time and leave the GOP to plot an independent bid for President. Even if Bloomberg ultimately decides not to run, Giuliani may already be the Bloomberg campaign’s first victim.

For Giuliani, the Bloomberg boomlet is bad news on every level. First, Bloomberg joins Fred Thompson in sucking up much of the oxygen that Giuliani’s campaign needs to keep breathing. In most national and statewide polls, Giuliani’s lead is slipping or has disappeared altogether. While Bloomberg explores how many billions it might take to buy an election, Giuliani suddenly finds himself in no-man’s land Fake Piaget Watches for sale, as a frontrunner who can’t buy a headline.

On Wednesday, Giuliani gave a speech detailing the first of his “12 Commitments.” Granted, no one should make too much of a commitment ceremony with Rudy Giuliani. But the plan he offered on fiscal discipline wasn’t bad. The national press chose to write another day of stories about Bloomberg.

The second burden is personal. Giuliani is famously selfish about sharing the limelight. He once fired his police chief William Bratton for appearing on the cover of Time. Giuliani’s attitude was, “That’s my job!” Now a man he thinks he picked for mayor has done it again. Far from firing him, Giuliani has to sit there and read all about it.

Most speculation about Giuliani and Bloomberg has focused on the general election, and the marquee prospect of a Subway Series between two New York mayors and a New York senator. But for Giuliani, the real threat Bloomberg may pose is in the primaries.

Unlike most presidential candidates, who tend to embellish their hometown roots, Giuliani’s campaign depends on making Republican-primary voters forget every aspect of his past except 9/11. His Web site calls him “a strong supporter of the Second Amendment,” not a Brady-billing assault-weapon banner. He’s not from the “abortion capital of the world”; he’s for parental notification and decreasing abortions. Gay rights? He’s such a traditionalist, his record boasts more straight marriages than any other candidate.

Giuliani’s Escape from New York was already tough enough Wholesale Replica Graham London Watches, but Mayor Mike makes it nearly impossible. Bloomberg is the Ghost of Rudy Past—a constant, high-profile reminder of the cultural distance from the South Carolina lowlands to the New York island.

When Bloomberg launched his gun-control crusade, he gave it a name that sounds like the headline from a GOP rival campaign’s oppo piece on Giuliani: “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.” For conservatives, the same accomplishments the national media loves about Bloomberg are the first signs of the Trilateralist Apocalypse: From penthouses in Manhattan Franck Muller Replica Watches, they’ll come for your guns; then they’ll snuff your tobacco; and in a final blow to life, liberty Replica Romain Jerome Watches, and the pursuit of happiness, they’ll take away your God-given right to trans-fats.

Mitt Romney looks disingenuous enough pretending that he saw Massachusetts and tried to stop it. Giuliani has no excuse. His last act as New York City mayor was to urge his people to elect Bloomberg to succeed him. Watching Bloomberg quit the party only reminds conservatives of their primal fear about Giuliani—that the GOP is not an article of faith but a way station of convenience.
